American Automobile Association honors The Hermitage Hotel with its Five Diamond Award for fifth consecutive year

Historic hotel remains only property in Tennessee, as well as five contiguous states, to hold distinguished rating

NASHVILLE, TN, – For the fifth consecutive year, the American Automobile Association bestowed upon The Hermitage Hotel its coveted Five Diamond Award for 2007, making it the only hotel in Tennessee to hold the distinction. According to AAA, 100 hotels nationwide will hold the Five Diamond distinction for 2008. The closest city to Nashville with a AAA Five Diamond-rated hotel is Atlanta.

“We remain extremely proud for The Hermitage Hotel and Nashville to continue to receive this recognition,” says Greg Sligh, the hotel’s managing director. “It’s a tremendous credit to our staff who have made The Hermitage one of the finest hotels in the world. The hotel has always been our city’s premier gathering place, and is now the place for celebrities and dignitaries to stay when visiting Nashville, including during the recent Country Music Awards.”

The Hermitage, which features 122 rooms and suites, joins its sister properties The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, VA, and The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Charleston, SC, in achieving the coveted rating, creating an unrivalled portfolio of luxury, independent hotels. The Hermitage and The Jefferson also hold the Mobil Five Star rating, placing them on an elite list of 28 hotels, resorts and inns in North America and Mexico to hold AAA’s and Mobil’s highest awards.

The Hermitage Hotel opened in 1910 after being commissioned by 250 Nashville residents. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the only remaining grand hotel in Nashville. It is a member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, and Historic Hotels of America.

AAA has been publishing its hotel rankings since 1977 when the AAA Tour Book printed the ratings for the first time. Less than one half of one percent of all properties inspected receives the AAA Five Diamond award.

When considering a property for a Four or Five Diamond rating, AAA inspectors check in to hotels anonymously. Upon departure, they will announce their identity and present a written summary of the inspection and the rating decision. AAA also publishes a list of criteria that is used throughout the evaluation process to determine a Five Diamond rating in eight categories of the guest experience including exterior and grounds, public areas, room décor and ambiance, guest room amenities, bathrooms, housekeeping, management, and guest services.
